Procedural Islands, and Trees

The goal of this project is to create a set of tools based on a concept by Sin Jong Hun in Unreal using SideFX’ Houdini integration in Unreal. I wanted to do the majority of the modelling via tools I create using Houdini.

I broke the concept down into 2 key tools: a procedural island tool, and a procedural tree tool.

The idea is that these tools would be used to help create the environment in the concept. Perhaps in the future, I will recreate the concept using my tools. For a picture of the concept, view the documentation at the bottom of the page.

This is a work in progress project. Last updated 13/12/24

Procedural tree from spline

The user draws a spline for the main trunk of the tree, and the rest of the tree is modelled for them. The user can then customise this further by adjusting the exposed parameters in the HDA. Created without Labs Tree tools.

Procedural island from spline

The user draws a shape which defines the shape of the island from a birds eye view. This shape is turned into a floating island. The user is able to adjust the number of divisions, and height of the island via parameters exposed in the HDA.
